Roy A. Sump
Roy A. Sump, 87, died
Saturday (Aug. 26, 2006) at Newton Medical Center. He was the son of August and
Anna (Raggow) Sump and was born in Medford, Okla. He served in World War II in
Europe as a SSGT in the Army. He fought at The Battle of the Bulge and Omaha
Beach. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Helen Creglow on Aug. 16,
1941, in Newton. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1988. He married
Laurinda (Nickel) Schmidt in Hesston on Sept. 15, 1991. She resides of the
home.
He was retired from the
Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Other survivors include:
sons, Dale and wife Valerie Sump and David Sump, all of Newton; grandchildren,
Jaqueline and husband Don Quiring and Stephen Sump Sr., all of Newton;
great-grandchildren, Olivia, Amelia and Alexandria Quiring, Stephen Jr. and
James Sump, and Trisha and husband Jason Esslinger, all of Newton; great-great-grandchildren,
Jason Jr. and Austin Esslinger of Newton; five stepdaughters; and two stepsons.
He also was preceded in death
by: his parents; four brothers; six sisters; and a grandson, Brandon Sump.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Tuesday with family greeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10
a.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Doug
Ingmire officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Memorials have been established
with Newton Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
