Margaret L. Gawthrop
HALSTEAD - Margaret L.
Gawthrop, 89, died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2006) at Halstead Health and
Rehabilitation. She was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Sedan to Floyd and Martha
(Randal) Wemmer. They precede her in death. She attended grade school and high
school in Sedan. Following high school, she attended business college. Aug. 16,
1938, she married Lawrence W. Gawthrop in Sedan. He preceded her in death in
March 1981. She was a clerk for Harvey County and Juvenile Court for 10 years until
her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion
Auxiliary. She was a Brownie leader and enjoyed fishing and gardening. She
enjoyed people, and people enjoyed her very much.
She us survived by a
daughter, Marty (Brown) Majors of Newton; a son, Larry D. and Madeline Gawthrop
of Pampa, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth Wolfe of Sedan; and grandson and wife Tim
and Devina Haag of McPherson.
She also was preceded in
death by a sister, Dorothy Windsor.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. today, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Family will greet friends at the funeral home
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Funeral service will be at 10
a.m. Tuesday at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home chapel with Peter Hartman
officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Garden of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been
established with the Center of Basic Cancer Research of Kansas State University
and Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
