WALDO P. DICK News-Sentinel, The (Fort Wayne, IN) - Thursday, May 11, 2017 WALDO P. DICK, 99, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, at The Cedars, Leo, Ind. Born Sept. 9, 1917, in Landks krone, in the Mennonite colony of Molot schna, Ukraine. With the help of the Mennonite Central Committee, Waldo's family immigrated to the United States in 1923, including parents Peter and Anna Dick, brother Abram, and sisters, Anna and Katie. Maria, his other sister, died on the way to America. Waldo's family pioneered in Washington State where he graduated from Newport High School in 1936. The family moved to Newton, Kan., where he worked at the Herald Printing Company and attended Bethel College. He eventually graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in business management. Waldo was drafted in 1940 and served as a conscientious objector with the Civilian Public Service in several states throughout the country during World War II. He married Doris Beller in 1947 in Pontiac, Ill. They moved to Woodburn, Ind., in 1955 where they raised four children, James (Becky) Van Dyke, Susan (Terry) Unruh, John (Shirley) Dick, and Charles (Judith) Dick. With Doris, Waldo had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Waldo owned and worked at the Courier Printing Company in Grabill, Ind., until his retirement at the age of 95. He was a founding member of the Maplewood Mennonite Church in Fort Wayne. Following Doris's death in 2007, Waldo married Hazel Cummins in 2008, becoming a part of her family of three children, Rick (Teresa) Cummins, Jeanie (Dan) Kraly and Jim (Terri) Cummins, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Service is 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Maplewood Mennonite Church, 4129 Maplecrest Road, with calling 1 1/2 hour prior. The Rev Russell Jensen officiating.
