Lois R. Hastings
Lois R. Hastings, 78, died
Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2006) at Newton Presbyterian Manor. She was born Jan. 7,
1928, to Reece Palmer and Mary Ruth (Craft) Arthur. They preceded her in death.
She married Paul Hastings on Dec. 5, 1948. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30,
1987. Lois started working at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. on Sept. 3,
1946, and worked there continuously for 33 years, retiring on May 2, 1980. She
attended the First United Church of Christ in Newton. Lois was a very loving
person with a large and generous heart. She was always known to love and adopt you
if you were her friend. She and her husband also took in a foster child,
Shelley Cooke, and guided and helped Shelly graduate from Newton High School.
Survivors include: nieces and
nephews, Nancy Cook of Lakefield, Minn., Dr. Harry Arthur, David Arthur, Pastor
John Arthur, Mark Arthur, Mike Arthur and Ruth Gissel; sisters-in-law, Sue
(Mrs. Donald) Arthur and Norma (Mrs. Edwin) Arthur); a cousin, Connie Burkhart;
and countless "adopted children."
She also was preceded in
death by: brothers, Rev. Donald Arthur, Dwane Arthur, Edwin Arthur and Ned
Arthur.
Visitation will be from 2 to
9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 2
p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Hickerson officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn
Gardens of Memory.
Memorials have been
established with First United Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
