Margaret Z. Reimer

HESSTON - Margaret Z. Reimer, 95, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at Newton Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 22, 1911, to Suzana R. (Friesen) and Jacob R. Friesen in Meade. They preceded her in death. She married Henry K. Reimer on Nov. 29, 1942, at the Kleine-Gemeinde Church in Meade. Their wedding was the final service or event to take place at that church. He survives of Hesston. Margaret enjoyed sewing quilts and comforters until the day of her death. She would give these precious items to the needy families in Mexico and donated them to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). After Margaret reached retirement age, she gave another 20 years at the Lone Tree Lodge Nursing Home in Meade, mending for the residents.

In 2004, she was featured on KAKE 10 and awarded a plaque as part of the campaign of "People On Our Side." This was a title that recognized individuals service to their community. She volunteered and donated many hours of her time to the community and to MCC.

Other survivors include: sons, Harold and wife Linda Reimer of Newton and Marvon Reimer of Wichita; a daughter, Ruena Reimer of Wichita; brothers, Jacob Z. Friesen of Meade, Abram Z. Friesen of Meade, Henry Z. Friesen of Milford, Neb., Cornelius Z. Friesen of Hesston, Peter Z. Friesen of Newton and Isaac Z. Friesen of Edinburgh, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by: sisters, Katharina (Tena) Z. Friesen, Elizabeth Z. Penner, Sarah Z. Friesen, Suzana Z. Householter and Anna Z. Siemens; and brothers, Ben Z. Friesen, Henry Z. (Heinrich) Friesen and John Z. Friesen.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Koerner Heights Church of the Mennonite Brethren with Pastor Mark Isaac officiating.

Burial will be in Emmanuel Mennonite Cemetery in Meade.

Memorials have been established with the MCC and AVANT (formerly GMU) in care of the funeral home.
