Kelly D. Coons
Kelly D. Coons, 51, died
Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2006) at his residence. He was born Nov. 29, 1954, to Betty Jo
(Miller) and Donald Coons in Newton. His mother preceded him in death. He
attended Newton High School and played on the baseball team that was honored as
the 1970 state champion. Kelly attended Emporia State University and continued
his love for baseball by playing for Emporia State. He served in the U.S.
Marine Corps from 1972 to 1974. His hobbies included baseball, golf, bowling
and music, specifically the guitar.
Survivors include: his
father, Donald Coons of Newton; a son, Matthew Coons and wife Elly;
grandchildren, Ivry and Laney of Nevada, Mo.; a brother, Douglas Coons of
Newton; and a sister, Kim (Coons) Buckle and husband Gary of Newton.
Visitation will be from noon
to 9 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 1
p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with Pastor Gary Bell officiating.
Burial will follow at 4 p.m.
at Peace Creek in Sylvia.
Memorials have been
established with the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
