Bernard A. Wondra
Bernard A. Wondra, 75, died
Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2006) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1930,
to Anton and Matilda (Zorn) Wondra in Chase. They preceded him in death. He
married Gloria Manka in 1956. They later were divorced.
He graduated from Burdett
High School in 1948 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War. Bernard owned his own construction company while he lived in Larned. He
moved to Newton in 1972. Bernard was the building inspector for the city of
Newton. He continued to work in real estate until his retirement. He was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus. Bernard enjoyed
woodworking and collecting antiques.
Survivors include: sons, Kris
Wondra and Kerry Wondra, both of Newton; a daughter, Kelli Wondra of New York,
N.Y.; sisters, Theresa Kreutzer of Larned and Adeline Phillips of Dallas;
brothers, Tony Wondra and Steve Wondra, both of Wichita; friend, Mary Ryan of
Newton; and two grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death
by a sister, Mildred Dreher.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Thursday, with family greeting friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton
Recitation of the rosary will
be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Jim Mainzer of St. Mary's
Catholic Church officiating.
Memorials have been
established with the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.
