Elsie L. Miller
HESSTON - Elsie L. Miller,
86, died Monday (Oct. 16, 2006) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She was born on
April 16, 1920, in McPherson County to Edward and Lorena (Neuschwanger) Selzer.
On April 10, 1955, she married Ezra Miller. They were married for 44 years. He
preceded her in death in 1999. They lived on a farm in the Red Top Community
east of Bloomfield, Mont. She moved to Kansas in 2001, where she lived at Hickory
Homes and Schowalter Villa. She was a homemaker and a member of Hesston College
Mennonite Church.
In the 1940s and 1950s, she
did mission work at various places, including Hutchinson Mennonite Mission and
Mennonite Service Units in Northern Minnesota and North Dakota. She also served
in Saginaw, Mich., at the Saginaw Gospel Mission and the Ninth Street Mennonite
Church.
She was a cook at Hesston
College for several years. She always was active in churches she attended and
felt it was important to be a member of those churches.
Survivors include a son, Dan
and Jo Miller of Newton; a brother, Merle and Lois Selzer of rural Hillsboro; a
sister, Alice Selzer of Hesston; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
and nieces, nephews and friends.
She also was preceded in
death by a son, Tom; and a brother, Wilbur Selzer.
Visitation will be from 4 to
8 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in
Hesston.
The service will be at 10:30
a.m. Friday at the Schowalter Villa chapel in Hesston, with the Pastor Cheryl
Hershberger and Chaplain Beverly Baumgartner officiating.
Burial will take place later
in rural Bloomfield, Mont.
A memorial fund has been
established with Mennonite Central Committee in care of the funeral home.
