Ralph E. Detwiler
HESSTON - Ralph E. Detwiler,
90, farmer, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2006) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He
was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Cherry Box, Mo., to Noah and Orpha (Fortner)
Detwiler. On June 24, 1938, he married Verna Miller. He was a member of Hesston
Mennonite Church. He loved gardening and giving away the produce grown; he also
loved woodworking and making things to give away. He was a man with a very
generous spirit and heart. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Sheldon
Detwiler; and sisters Naomi Zook and Martha Wenger.
Survivors include: sons Don
Detwiler of Decatur, Texas, and Glenford Detwiler of Mount Juliet, Tenn.;
daughters Luann Goertzen of Hesston, Belle Duerksen of Goshen, Ind., and
Phyllis Yoder of Wellman, Iowa; brothers Oren Detwiler of Hesston and Russell
Detwiler of Flanagan, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at
11 a.m. Saturday at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston. Visitation will be from
6 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
A memorial has been
established with Schowalter Villa in care of the funeral home.
