Herman R. Voth

Herman R. Voth, 86, of Newton died Friday (Nov. 3, 2006) at Via Christi-St. Francis campus in Wichita.

He was born May 20, 1920, in Goessel to Henry and Katheryn (Buhler) Voth. On May 16, 1947, he married Dora J. Harder in Newton. She survives of the home.

Herman was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton, where he served in various capacities, including welcoming and taping committees. He also was an usher. Herman also sang with the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Whitewater American Legion.

He worked as an implement mechanic for International Harvestor dealerships in Newton and Wichita. Herman also did small engine repair out of his home for more than 20 years. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, woodworking and crafts. He looked forward to spending time with his family and many friends.

Other survivors include: sons James and Barbara Voth of Newton, and Thomas and Pamela Voth of Wichita; a twin sister, Helen Claassen of Whitewater; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; and sisters, Martha Busenitz and Anna Penner.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Mennonite Church with Pastor Clarence Rempel of the church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Mennonite Central Committee and First Mennonite Church, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
