Anna Korobka
Anna
Korobka, 88, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2006) at Newton Medical Center.
Korobka was
born July 1, 1918, in Kuban, Russia, to Paul and Palachaia (Haponova)
Mechetnaya.
She married
Tony Korobka in Regensburg, Germany. He preceded her in death. She was a
resident of Newton since 1954, coming to the United States in 1951 from
Germany. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Wichita.
Anna looked
forward to spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She
enjoyed spending time outdoors and gardening. She was especially well known for
her homegrown tomatoes. Anna's family had many fond memories of their mother's
cooking, especially the many gatherings where they enjoyed her baking.
Survivors
include: daughters, Switlana and Stan Briar of Hesston, and Luba and Gerald
Brinkman of Peabody; sons Victor Korobka of Newton, and George and Virginia
Korobka of Hays; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
She also was
preceded in death by her parents and grandson George Holm.
Service will
be at 10 a.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Father Paul
O'Callaghan. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial
has been established with St. George Orthodox Cathedral in care of the funeral
home.
