Clyde D.
"Jake" Steele, 72, died Wednesday (Nov. 15, 2006) at Via Christi
Regional Medical Center St. Francis in Wichita.
He was born
Oct. 31, 1934, in rural Stafford County to Gerald Perley and Iva Jane (Meireis)
Steele.
He married
Yvonne Brack on Aug. 21, 1953, in Stafford. She survives of the home.
Jake owned
his own grocery store in Argonia for 18 years. He worked for 27 years as the
meat market manager for Dillons stores in Newton. Jake worked for Dillons in
its floral delivery department at the time of his death.
Jake enjoyed
spending time outdoors and hunting, and looked forward to spending time with
his many friends and loving family.
Other
survivors include: sons, Michael and Karen Steele, Patrick and Paula Steel,
Timothy and Joanna Steele, Todd and Deborah Steele, all of Newton; daughter,
Michele Steel, of Wichita; sisters, Norma Payne of Lenanon, Mo., Emma Lou
Southworth of Hutchinson and AdaLee Madden of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elvayne Steele; and sister,
AnnaBelle Kent.
Visitation
is from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Service will
be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home, with Pastor Ed Snead
officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial
with the American Lung Association has been established in care of the funeral
home.
