Mary B. Hopkins, 99, died Friday (Nov. 17, 2006) at Schowalter Villa in
Hesston.
Mary B.
(Henson) Hopkins was born on March 15, 1907, at St. Mary's, Mo., to Urban J.
and Blanche (Conrade) Birch. On Feb. 19, 1927, she married Ralph
"Pete" Henson. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1955.
She later
married Elmer D. Hopkins on Dec. 25, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 21,
2004.
Mary
graduated from Central High School in Cape Girardeau and South East Missouri
State University with a bachelor's degree in education.
She taught
elementary school for 30 years in several southeast Missouri schools.
She was a
member of Bloomfield First Baptist Church, Stoddard County Retired Teachers
Association and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
She is
survived by son, Byron "Kent" Henson of Hesston; daughters La Donna
Sue Cook of Houston; and step-daughter Barbara West of Cape Girardeau; seven
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild and three
step-great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her father and mother; first and second husbands; a
step-daughter; one sister and one grandchild.
Funeral
service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield,
Mo., with the Dr. Dave Bryan and Pastor Matt Johnson officiating. Burial will
follow in the Cape County Memorial Park, Cape Giradeau, Mo.
The family
will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home
in Bloomfield.
Memorial
contributions can be made to the Bloomfield Baptist Church and left with
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton or Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield,
Mo.
