Naomi Davis Fortney
HESSTON -- Naomi Davis Fortney, 59,
died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She
was born to Orie and Rita (Cisco) Davis in Walton. They preceded her
in death. She married Don Fortney Aug. 14, 1942, in Wichita. He
preceded her in death. She was raised in the Newton/Walton area and
graduated from Newton High School. She spent her young adult years
singing in school activities and choirs. She was employed at Boeing
after high school and sang on radio Wichita. She lived with her
husband in Honolulu until the time of his death. Her husband was a
big band era musician and dance band leader. They performed together
in many area night clubs and country club locations. She returned to
Newton and continued to entertain for many years with her brother,
guitar player Vic Davis. She also worked several years for the
Wichita Credit Bureau and she was manager of the Newton Elks Lodge in
the mid 70's and 80's.
Survivors include: a daughter,
Stephanie Reimer of Newton; a brother, Orie 'Pete' Davis of Bella
Vista, Alaska; three sisters, Patty Perkins of Wichita, Billie Barker
of Hesston and Wanda Nierman of Shell Knob, Mo.; a grandson, Brad
Fortney of Wichita; two granddaughters, Shannon Adams of Olathe and
Robin Metzler of Newton; five great-grandchildren; two
step-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Regan Fortney of
Wichita.
She also was preceded in death by: a
son, Stephen Fortney; and two brothers, Doug Davis and Vic Davis.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m.
today and from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Friday with family greeting friends
from 7 to 9 p. m., all at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a. m.
Saturday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Beverly
Baumgartner officiating.
Burial will be in Wichita Park Cemetery
in Wichita.
Memorials have been established with
Schowalter Villa of Hesston in care of the funeral home.
