Samuel H. Classen
Samuel H. Classen, 84, died
Friday, (Dec. 8, 2006) in North Newton.
He married Lula F. Nickel on
March 9, 1944, at Ebenfeld Church. She survives.
Other survivors include a
daughter and three sons: Beverly and husband, Frank Willems of Newton; Ray and
wife Janice of North Newton; Mark and wife Linda of Buhler; and Luke and wife
Ellen of Vero Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother
Albert, of Wichita; a sister, Elsie Goertzen and husband Walter of Henderson,
Neb.; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
During their marriage, they
lived in Hillsboro, Wichita, Meade and Newton.
He was a charter board member
of the Union Rescue Mission and served in that capacity for more than 56 years.
Sam recently was honored for these services at the Rescue Mission banquet. He
also served with MCC; Gideons; Lions Club; Gonzalos Mexican Mission; and CBMC
(Christian Business Men's Committee). He was a Child Evangelism board member
and gave freely to the Crystal Cathedral in California; where he was a member
of the Eagles Club.
The funeral service will be
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Koerner Heights Church of the Mennonite Brethren in
Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home
