Ruth M. Smith
HALSTEAD – Ruth M. Smith, 84,
homemaker, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Halstead Homestead Assisted
Living, Halstead. She was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Halstead, to Menno
and Ruby (Smith) Dirks.
She was a member of Grace Mennonite
Church, Halstead. On May 6, 1951, she married Kenneth Smith at
Halstead. He survives of the home. Other survivors include: son,
Steve (Sherry) Smith, Halstead; daughters, Cheris (Raleigh) Koehn,
Halstead, Gaylene (Charles) Koehn, Texline, Texas, Alice (Michael)
Unruh, Gentry, Ark.; brothers, Willis (Hilma) Dirks, Moundridge, Ed
(Jerri) Dirks, Halstead; sister, Ivalee (Melvin) Becker, Sedgwick; 17
grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Monday, April 4, at Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead. Funeral will be
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the church, with Ministers Marlin
Unruh, Dean Becker and Merle Wenger officiating. Burial will follow
at Halstead Cemetery, Halstead. Memorials may be given to Grace
Mennonite Church, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
