Dorothy L. (Lambel) Matlack LYONS – Dorothy L. (Lambel) Matlack, 96, died April 2, 2014, at the Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. She was born March 18, 1918, in rural Walton, Kan., the daughter of John and Lulu Thompson Heine. A Lyons resident since 1990, formerly of Chase, she was a homemaker and worked for George Purdy Jewelry Store for many years. Her memberships included: the United Methodist Church, 67 year member Order of Eastern Star from 1947 to 2014; she helped start the Gray Ladies at the Rice County District Hospital and spent many years as an active member; served on the Rice County District Hospital Board and worked as the Park Place Senior Activities Director. On June 22, 1938, she married L.C. "Lawrence" Lambel in Newton, Kan. He died in 1973. In 1977, she married E.R. "Everett" Matlack in Lyons, Kan. He died in 1995. Survivors include: daughter, Sandra and Ron Atteberry of Evanston, Wyo.; brother, Alan Heine of Newton; sister, Frances Lowrey of Oklahoma City; three grandsons, Todd and Raina Laessig of Memphis, Tenn., Tracey and Dana Laessig of Denver, Colo., Reverend Andrew and Jeanne Lambel of Cassville, Mo.; three step grandchildren, Anita and Greg Johannsen., Roger and Britt Atteberry, both of Lyons, Scott and Belinda Atteberry of Wichita; nine great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L.C. Lambel; husband, Everett Matlack; son, Wade Lambel; grandson, Troy Laessig; and two brothers Warren and Lawrence Heine and their spouses.Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Reverend Brenda Davids officiating. Burial will be in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014, at United Methodist Church, Lyons. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
