Buster Claud Stevens 

Buster Claud Stevens (Langhover), 76, died Sunday (Dec. 24, 2006) at Newton Medical Center. He was born on March 13, 1930, the son of Goldie (Ware) and George Stevens in Wichita. On May 28, 1953, he married Carrol Kay Sooby in Newton. They spent 53 1/2 years with each other. Buster served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, spending time in the Phillippines. He held memberships with the American Legion Club Post 112, VFW Post 971 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2516, all of Newton. He was one of the first to obtain an amateur radio license using the call sign of WOKOT. Buster attended Denver University for several years. Some of Buster's favorite past times were attending Denver Bronco games, his flowers, yard work and visiting with friends on the computer. Survivors include his wife of Newton; and daughters, April (Stevens) Starrlong of Indiana and Misty Dawn (Stevens) Gilliam and spouse Rich of North Carolina.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Irene Stevens; and son, Sidney Vaughn Stevens. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery with Father Floyd McKinney officiating. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Heartland Hospice of Wichita or the American Diabetes Foundation, all in care of the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
