Vernon D.
Jones, 54, died Friday (March 30, 2007) at his residence in Sedgwick.
He was born
on April 28, 1952, in Rooks County to Charles and Viola (Harger) Jones. On Feb.
13, 1986, he married Shirley Davis in Newton. She survives at home. He attended
Palco schools. He was baptized at Sedgwick Christian Church and was a member of
the Grace Community Church in Newton. He retired from the environmental service
department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Wichita in April 2005 after 29 years of
service. He greatly enjoyed spending time fishing and bird watching with his
loving wife of 21 years.
Survivors
also include a brother-in-law, Gary and Kathy Davis of Topeka; a sister-in-law,
Debbie and Robert Newby of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Ray Jones of McCook, Neb.;
a brother, Alvin Jones of New York; a sister Carolyn and Mike Norris of
Freeland, Mich.; nieces and nephews, step-daughter, Beverly Wood of Houston,
Texas; step-daughter, Dawn R. Thumber of Plattsmouth, Neb., and three
step-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles Jones Jr.; a sister
Rosemary Barlow.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 9 p.m. with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Service will
be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church in Newton with Pastor David
Reimer, Pastor Steve Friesen and Pastor Jim Horning officiating. Graveside
service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater

may be made to Grace Community Church in care of the funeral home.
