THE OBITUARY OF PETER BACHMAN
After five months of sickness Peter Bachman, an early settler of Garden township and for many years a respected and prominent man of his community, was called to his reward on New Year's Day. The funeral services were held at the Garden church on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4 and was largely attended. 
Peter Bachman was born at Stockborn Rhein Bavaria Germany, May 13, 1847. He grew to manhood there and then came to this country in 1881 and was a citizen of Garden township from that time on. On March 2, 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Miller and to them were born fourteen children. He was baptised in 1861 and united with the Mennonite Church. When Garden township church was organized he was one of its charter members and contributed liberally to its success. He was the last charter member left in the community. He became a member of the board of deacons in 1914 and remained active in that office as long as he was physically able. He was blessed with good health until early last August a malignant trouble manifested itself and soon broke down his strong constitution. However, he was spared from intense suffering and approached the end peacefully and with a desire to meet his maker. He is survived by his widow, eight children, three grandchildren and two sisters. The children are: Mrs. C. H. Goering of Moundridge, Mrs. P. J. Bartel of Garden township, D. M. Bachman of Iola, Ernest of Moundridge, Adolph, Gerhard, Otto and Peter are still at home. The sisters are: Mrs. Jacob Klee of Newark N.J. and Mrs. Katherine Hoffman living in Germany. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth, yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from theirs labors, for their works shall follow with them".
