Victor
Herbert Loebsack
HESSTON -
Victor "Vic" Herbert Loebsack passed away on Friday (April 6, 2007)
in Hesston.
Vic was a
man of many interests and talents. He grew up in Wichita during the Depression
and was on his own at a very young age. He became an architect, engineer,
cattleman, developer and aviator. He owned a construction company and was a
partner of the architect firm of Williamson and Loebsack, which built many
schools around the Midwest including Washburn Rural, Jay Shidler and Avondale
East. His crowning achievement was the building of the dam and creating Lake
Sherwood and the development of Sherwood Estates in Topeka. He was a visionary
in the cattle industry by using artificial insemination and later developed a new
construction process using plywood panels to construct apartments and homes in
Hesston, Newton, Topeka, El Dorado and McPherson.
During World
War II, he worked for Boeing Co. writing the specification manual for the B-29
Bomber and then joined the U.S. Navy. Involved in his life was his first wife
Ella Fisher who gave him Vicki Peterson, Kay Mettner and Sue Bolley of Topeka
and Cindy Sundgren of El Dorado. His marriage of 37 years to Margo Rupp and her
children Stephen Rupp of San Diego and Leanne Dillingham of Austin, provided
Vic another wonderful family. His children and stepchildren along with his 13
grandchildren plus 11 great-grandchildren provided him with many years of
pleasure as well as challenges. He was never short on conversation or an opinion,
and his optimism, brilliance and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
A private
family gathering will be conducted to celebrate his life.
