Frances
Buckman Stevenson, passed away on Tuesday (Sept. 29, 2006) in Phoenix, Ariz.
She was born
in Newton on Jan 15, 1909 to William H. and Julia Kelly Buckman. They preceded
her in death. She graduated from Newton High School in 1926.
She married
James Stevenson on Sept. 5, 1935. They first lived in Wichita, where she was
employed by McKesson-Robbins Wholesale Drug Company and then by the Department
of Interstate Commerce. They moved to Phoenix in 1949 where she continued her
employment with the Department of Interstate Commerce until she retired. James
preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1973. She had three sisters, one of which was
Julia Grochowsky Reynolds of Newton, and two brothers who preceded her in
death. Thomas Grochowsky of Newton. Michael Grochowsky of Overland Park, Patrick
Grochowsky of Independence, Mo. and Bill Jones of Wichita are among her
fourteen nieces and nephews who survive her.
Her burial
was held at an earlier date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial
mass will at 9 a.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. 30, 1981.
