Emma Jean
Mathis, 78, died Tuesday (April 10, 2007) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
She was born
on Feb. 11, 1929, in rural Parsons to Clyde C. and Waunetta May (Pyatt) Mathis.
On Oct. 20, 1951 she married Marvin Mathis in Dennis. He survive at home. She
was a member of the Old Main Street Church of Christ in Newton.
Survives
included sons, David Mathis of Hillsboro, Dan Mathis of Topeka, John Mathis of
Richamond, Ky.; sisters-in-law, Vinetta Chickadonz of Dennis, Freida Conrad of
Parsons, Nadine Stevenson of Parsons, Patty Kimrey of West Mineral;
brother-in-law, Russell Mathis of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Clydine Schneider and a daughter,
Debbie Mathis.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family
present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Service will
be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Derrick
Shepherd officiating. A graveside committal will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.

may be made to Center For Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University in
care of the funeral home.
