Ruth S. Epp
Ruth S. Epp,
93, died Saturday (April 14, 2007) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North
Newton.
She was born
on Feb. 24, 1914, in rural Harvey County to Henry J.S. and Sara (Schroeder)
Schmidt. On Nov. 9, 1939, she married Paul F. Epp at Tabor Mennonite Church in
rural Goessel. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2007. She was a homemaker
and she along with her husband ran their dairy and farming operations in the
Brudertal community near Hillsboro. In 1965, they moved to the Newton-Walton
area and continued farming until their retirement. She was an active member of
Brudertal Mennonite and later Tabor Mennonite Church. They were active in the
beginning years of the MCC Sale and continued for many years.
Survivors
include a son, Weldon and Bonnie Epp of Newton; a daughter, Verda and Geoffrey
Deckert of Newton; a brother, Dannie Schmidt of Goessel; a sister, Elsie
Schmidt of Goessel; grandchildren, Marc Epp, Jerry Epp, Ladd Epp, Natasha
(Deckert) Arnold and Maria Epp; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Joycelyn Kay Epp, brothers,
Ferdinand Schmidt, Walter Schmidt, and Arnold Schmidt, and a sister, Helen
Nikkel.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with
family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Service will
be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tabor Mennonite Church in Goessel with Pastor Corey
Miller officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haven of Rest
Cemetery in Hillsboro.

may be made to Mennonite Central Committee in care of the funeral home.
