George, Robert Frank
from FAG
Robert was the fifth of seven children born to William Anderson and Mary J (Jernigan) George in Taylorville, Illinois. When he was about nine years old, his parents left Illinois and headed down to Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. He lived there from 1881 until 1937. He married his first wife, Alta Chambers on 30 July 1896, she died 25 August 1909. On 18 September 1915, he married his second wife, Ruby Irene (Woodward) Crobarger. It was a second marriage for both, she also lost her first husband to death. Around 1937 he went left first to California and then his wife and their children, Lucena, Cuma, Paul, Don and Willa came later. He hired two men to drive the old hearse he'd boughten from his former boss, to take his wife and children cross country. The family eventually settled in Glendale, California. Around Thanksgiving 1949, he had gone from California back to Newton, Kansas to attend to some personal business. He was staying at the home of son, James (Woody) George, when he passed away on 7 December 1949. His body was taken from Kansas to California, by train, where he was buried. During his lifetime he held various jobs from a day-laborer; building mover; hearse driver; to even working in the mines in Kansas during the 1920s. He never served in the military, though he did fill out the WWI draft notice card.
