Hilmar T.
Voth, 93, died Thursday (April 26, 2007) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
He was born
June 22, 1913, on the family farm near Goessel to Henry S. and Elizabeth (Dyck)
Voth. He attended the Emmenthal School through the eighth grade and Goessel
High School through his junior year. After his family moved to Newton, he
attended Newton High School, and graduated in 1934. After high school he began
work at the Herald Publishing Co., where he worked as a printer until his retirement
in 1983.
He married
Ruth Penner on Aug. 24, 1940, in Newton. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4,
2004. Hilmar enjoyed music - singing together with his wife Ruth and playing
the Hawaiian guitar. He sang in numerous quartets for many years. He was a
charter member of the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus and sang in the chorus
until 2003. He and his wife were active participants for many years at the
Mennonite Relief Sale in Hutchinson. He was an active member of Grace Community
Church and enjoyed serving there in various ways.
Survivors
include a son, Gerald Voth of Roeland Park; daughters, LaDeen and Gordon Stucky
of rural Newton, and Carol and John Mychalishyn of Mill Creek, Wash.; and eight
grandchildren, Chris and Sherri Breen of Kearney, Mo., Aaron Voth of Newton,
Andrew and Janel Voth of Overland Park, Ben and Nicki Voth of Pattonsburg, Mo.,
Doug and Robyn Stucky of rural Newton, Brad and Lynda Stucky of Fayetteville,
Ark., Amy Stucky of Overland Park and Tammy Holdeman of Denver.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Hulda Voth, a brother, Waldo
Voth, and sister, Dora Mayes.
Visitation
will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family
present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Service will
be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church in Newton with Pastors Dave
Reimer and Steve Friesen officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in
Newton.
Memorials
may be made to Grace Community Church and Mennonite Central Committee in care
of the funeral home.
