Louis E. 'Pat' Patterson
Louis E. 'Pat' Patterson, 84,
died Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2005). He was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Newton to Edward C.
and Rosa E. (Rodgers) Patterson. He attended schools in Newton and Abilene. He
served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II as an aviation machinists
mate, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. He later graduated from Kansas
State Teacher's College in Emporia in 1950, where he was a member of Phi Sigma
Epsilon. He taught and coached basketball at Americus, Arkansas City and
Independence, before becoming a special agent for the Hartford Insurance Group
in the crop hail division. Later he was named national director and retired at
that position.
Pat coached many young men in
Little League on up and was a great coach and mentor. He enjoyed being an
active part of his children and grandchildren's lives.
Pat is survived by his wife
of 56 years, Joan (Hoch) Patterson; his daughter, Dianne Patterson-Burns
(Dwight); eight grandsons, Lt. Joshua Bousum, U.S. Navy, (Rachel), Jeremy
Bousum, Jayson Bousum, Nolan Patterson, Jeff Patterson (Emily), Scott Patterson
(Kristen), Bryant Patterson, Trevis (Andrea) Ickler; one granddaughter, Megan
Burns; and daughter-in-law, Geri "Geivett" Patterson. He also leaves
three great-grandchildren, Lilith Bousum, Caleb and Ian Patterson.
Pat was preceded in death by
his son, John E. Patterson; his parents; sister, Rosa Looney; and brothers,
Melvin, Lowell and Donald Patterson.
A memorial service will be 2
p.m. Friday, with a visitation to follow, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024
Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park.
