Elvena Jones
Elvena Jones, 93, died
Thursday (Dec. 8, 2005) at Wichita Clinic-Bethel in Newton. She was born July
16, 1912, to Albert M. and Nellie B. (Hall) Smith in Lacona, Iowa. They
preceded her in death. She married Stanley Emmert Jones March 2, 1930, in Dodge
City. He preceded her in death. She worked at Beech as a riveter and as a clerk
at Woolworth, Rexall Drug Store, Ben Franklin and Hurst Produce. Elvena
attended Salem United Methodist Church. She belonged to Tent 16 of the Daughters
of Union Veterans and was a Girl Scout leader.
She loved crafts, crocheting,
embroidery, yard work and animals.
Survivors include: children,
Betty and Orville E. (Jones) Schmidt of Newton and Robert S. Jones of McLouth;
three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and eight
great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in
death by: Helen (Beeman) Hampton and Luvena (Beeman) Payton.
Visitation will be from 5 to
9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 6 to
8 p.m. Sunday, all at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2
p.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sherry Clemons
officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been
established with Salem United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
