Vonda Grace Herder 1915-2008

Vonda Grace Herder, 93, Yates Center, died Friday, September 12, 2008, at Yates Center Health Center.

She was born March 28, 1915, in Portland to John Andrew and Grace Zora Sheperd Zaring. She graduated from high school in Sedgwick.

She owned and operated Yates Center Hatchery and was the Yates Center librarian from 1961 to 1989.

She married Max Johnson in 1944. Later, on Aug. 30, 1954, she married Arthur "Bud" Herder in Iowa. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Yates Center United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Roger Johnson, Independence; three stepchildren, Ruth Clasen, Iowa, Elizabeth Schwindt, Whitewater, and John Herder, Newton; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Veryl Zaring; and two sisters, Mary Eshelman and Verda Paff.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Yates Center Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center, before proceeding to the cemetery.
