Olin Bare
Olin Bare, 99, former resident of Harper and Harper High School member of the class of 1937, passed away Sunday ( May 7, 2017) at Asbury Park Retirement Home in Newton.

Olin was born to Joseph Harlin Bare and Ida Elnora (Bauer) Bare Nov. 9, 1917, in Harper.

Olin began work at the Harper Post Office, as assistant city mail carrier.

On Jan. 23, 1943, Olin was called to serve his country with the Medical Corp, in the United States Army, during World War II. He served in England. After three years, he received his honorable discharge, returning Feb. 1, 1946. He resumed his job at the Harper Post Office until August 1957, when he became a regular city carrier, walking the city route. On May 25, 1974, he became the rural carrier west of Harper. Olin retired after 56 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

Olin was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church in Harper.

Olin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ivan Bare; sister-in-law, Ardis Bare of Lebanon, Oregon; sister, Olive Bare, Newton; and brother-in-law, Bob Diller of Hesston.

He will be missed by his sister, Marcella Diller of Hesston; five nieces; four nephews; one great-niece; and seven great-nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church cemetery at a later date.
