Warkentin-Zehr, Elfrieda J

Elfrieda J. Warkentin-Zehr, 88, died Thursday (Aug. 15, 2002) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born April 29, 1914, to Henry D. and Agnes (Wiebe) Fleming in Marion. They preceded her in death. She married Alvin Warkentin Aug. 1, 1932, in Goessel. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1977. She married William Zehr April 8, 1979, in Newton. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. He was a member of the American Business Womens Association and the Harvey County RSVP. She was a former Girl Scout leader. She earned the lifetime achievement award from Newton Medical Center. She enjoyed roses, flowers and gardening.
Survivors include: a daughter, Janice Langford of Newton; a son, James R. Warkentin of Lucerne Valley, Calif.; a brother, Waldo Fleming of Reedly, Calif.; two sisters, Wilma Epp of Hillsboro and Francis Roth of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by: a daughter, Joyce Burch; two brothers; and six sisters.
Funeral service was Monday at First Mennonite Church with Pastors Verney Unruh and Martin Burch officiating.
Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory.
Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association and the St. Jude Children's Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
