Marvin L. Harms
Marvin L. Harms, 81, died
Dec. 14, 2005, at his residence in Newton. He was born Sept. 8, 1924, to
William W. and Anna C. (Thiessen) Harms. He married Ruth Andeway July 22, 1945.
She preceded him in death Dec. 12, 2001. He was raised on a farm in Marion
County and began working for the John Deere Dealership which he later purchased
and operated until 1987. In 1989, he and Jasper Eicher started J&M Ag
Services which he was a partner until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of
First Baptist Church in Newton where he served on various boards and committees
for over 55 years including church treasurer and trustee. He also served on the
Newton Chamber of Commerce, the Harvey County Extension Council and Fair Board.
Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to visits with
his family and friends.
Survivors include: a son,
Royce and Donna McCoy-Harms of Overland Park; daughters, Sue and Gary Banman of
Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lori and Kip Ballinger of Gypsum; grandsons, Ryan and
Jamieson Banman of Decatur, Ill., Jeff and Wendy Banman of Salt Lake City and
Tyler McCoy-Harms of Overland Park; a granddaughter, Sarah McCoy-Harms and Eric
Williams of Overland Park; great-grandsons, Rhett Banman and Reese Banman, both
of Decatur; brothers, Dr. Wilmer Harms of North Newton, Verden Harms of
Hillsboro and Richard Harms of North Newton; and a sister, Elfreda Thomas of
Lincoln, Neb.
He also was preceded in death
by a sister, Phoebe Just.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at
Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 11
a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Pastor John Bliss officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Memorials have been
established with First Baptist Church and Union Rescue Mission, both in care of
the funeral home.
