HESSTON - Joanne Claire
(Grieser) Stehman, 77, died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in Hesston. She was born
on April 6, 1928, in Beemer, Neb., to Chris and Catherine Grieser. She married
Glenn Stehman Aug. 16, 1950, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He survives. During the
next 26 years, they raised their family of five children in North Dakota and Minnesota.
In 1976, the Stehmans moved to Hesston. Joanne worked at Hesston College in
food service from 1983 until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends. She
was an avid gardener and a member of the Harvey County Master Gardeners. Joanne
volunteered at the Et. Cetera Shop in Newton for many years. She was a member
of Hesston Mennonite Church.
Joanne approached life with
enthusiasm, energy and a deep faith. Her family was a source of great joy to
her, and she will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
Other survivors include: four
sons, Randy and Christine of Goessel, Tony of Bemidji, Minn., Rick and Cathy of
Lawrence, and Jeff and Shannon of Kabetogama, Minn.; a daughter, Sandra and
Larry Toews of Houston; two brothers, Joel and Joyce of Goliad, Texas, and Don
and Ceil of Audubon, Minn.; a sister, Susie Knott of Minnetonka, Minn.; and
nine grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30
a.m. today at Hesston Mennonite Church with the Rev. John Murray officiating.
Memorial funds have been
established for the Hesston College Student Scholarship Fund or the Hesston
Mennonite Church building fund, both in care of Cornerstone Cremation Society,
3700 East Douglas at Clifton Square, Suite 52, Wichita, KS.
