Rosemary Moyer
Obituary
Rosemary L. Moyer, 88, passed away from a long illness on
June 26, 2019, at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
Rosemary June Linscheid was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Mountain
Lake, Minnesota, to Louis H. and Agnetha (Tieszen) Linscheid. She lived with
her parents and older brother in Butterfield, Minnesota, where her father was a
Mennonite pastor. When Rosemary was 8 years old, the family moved to Freeman,
South Dakota, where her father became pastor of the Bethany Mennonite Church.
She completed elementary school in Freeman, and graduated from both Freeman
Academy (1948) and Freeman Junior College (1950). She attended Bethel College,
graduating with a BA in 1952.
Following her college graduation, she returned to her home
community and served as both registrar and bookkeeper of Freeman Junior College
for three years. During that time, she met J. Harold Moyer, who was on the
music faculty. They were married on Aug. 30, 1955, at Salem Mennonite Church,
Freeman.
Rosemary and Harold's first home was in Iowa City, Iowa,
where Harold pursued graduate studies in music at the University of Iowa and
Rosemary worked as a secretary in the university president's office in The Old
Capitol building. They then moved to Indiana, where Harold completed his Ph.D.
and taught music at Goshen College. In 1959, the family moved to North Newton,
where Harold returned to his hometown as a professor of music at Bethel
College. This remained his job and their home, except for sabbatical years
living in Champaign, Illinois, and Waterloo, Ontario.
While daughters Janet and Rachel were growing up, Rosemary
was primarily a homemaker and active in community and college organizations.
She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church, where she had numerous
roles through the years, including editor of the church newsletter,
secretary/treasurer for Women's Fellowship and serving on the Visitation Team.
In 1981, she became photo archivist at Mennonite Library and
Archives at Bethel College. She found this a challenging and enjoyable job,
which drew on her gifts of organization, attention to detail and accuracy, and
her working knowledge of Mennonite community and family connections.
Rosemary and Harold moved to Kidron Bethel Village in 2004,
where they remained active in the church, college and community for years.
Rosemary lived independently until entering Health Care in 2012. The family
appreciates the attentive and loving care provided by the Kidron Bethel Health
Care staff.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by daughter, Janet and Dwight Regier of
Newton; daughter, Rachel and Clayton Harrison of Kirtland, New Mexico;
grandchildren: Daniel Regier and Sara Rickard of Newton, Miriam and Ryan
Goertzen-Regier of North Newton, Peter Regier of Albuquerque, New Mexico,
Rebecca and Caleb Cumiford, Melissa and Mathew Chavez, all of Farmington, New
Mexico, and David Harrison of Kirtland, New Mexico; and a great-grandson, Edwin
Regier of Newton. She is also survived by her brother, Allen and Georgia
Linscheid of Reedley, California; and sister-in-law, Anna Moyer of Newton.
Family visitation will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (July 16,
2019) in Menno Hall at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton. The memorial
service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 17, 2019) at Bethel College
Mennonite Church.
Memorial gifts may be designated to Bethel College Mennonite
Church, Mennonite Library and Archives at Bethel College or Kidron Bethel
Village's Health Care Benevolent Fund.
