Michael R. Martinez
Michael R. Martinez, 66, retired
railroad and USD 398 employee, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2004) at Newton
Medical Center. He was born Sept. 29, 1938, to Juan and Josefina
(Modesto) Martinez in Florence. They preceded him in death. He
married Frances Saenz Oct. 22, 1960, in Florence. She survives of the
home. He loved his family and enjoyed attending all their activities.
He was an avid fan of the Wichita Thunder and the Kansas City Royals
and Chiefs. He enjoyed discussing and following politics. He also
enjoyed the times when he was able to visit Branson, Mo.
Other survivors include: two sons,
David M. Martinez of Peabody and Paul D. Martinez of Newton; four
daughters, Charlene Garcia of Hutchinson and Paula Harris, Rebecca
Rablin and Sarah Sears, all of Peabody; three brothers, Joe Martinez
of Wichita, Raymond Martinez of Marion and Guadalupe Martinez of
Newton; four sisters, Angie Garcia and Betty Martinez, both of
Newton, Louisa Gomez of Chicago and Dorothy Pineda of Lyons, Ill.; 12
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by: a
sister, Phyllis Martinez; four brothers, Marcos Martinez, Benito
Martinez, George Martinez and Stephen Martinez; a grandmother,
Juacinta Moreno; and a grandchild, Angel Martinez.
Recitation of the rosary will be 7:30
p.m. Today at St. Mary's Catholic church.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday
at Holy Family Catholic Church in Florence with Father Steven Gronert
officiating.
Memorials have been established with
the Cancer Center of Kansas, Newton Satellite in care of the funeral
home.
