Iris Beverly (Goodman) Kidd, 85, Topeka, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015.

Beverly was born on June 21, 1929, in Burrton, the daughter of Harry and Charlotte (Roberts) Goodman. She graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Beverly then graduated from Ottawa University in 1952. She later attended numerous universities for her graduate studies. On July 1, 1952, Beverly married Robert C. Kidd in Newton. They enjoyed 63 years together.

Robert and Beverly moved to Topeka in 1963. She taught grades fourth through 12th for 26 years in the Newton and Topeka area. Beverly was active many years in the Republican Party, where she worked on Bob Dole's presidential campaign. Beverly unsuccessfully ran for Kansas state representative in 1990.

After retirement, Beverly owned and operated a preschool in her home. Beverly was active in many organizations including the "No Name Club," the gourmet and travel history group of the American Association of University Women, the NEA, KNEA, Women's Club of Topeka and Kansas Women's Day. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling to Colorado every year to see the aspens.

Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Kidd, of the home; sons, Bruce Kidd (Christine), Harlingen, Texas, and J. David Kidd (Corinne), Topeka; grandchildren, Matthew Kidd, Michael Kidd, Kelly Rye, Justin Kidd and Jennifer Hupe; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Irma Boyle and Keith Goodman.

Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday , Jan. 15, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 S.W. Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614. A celebration of Beverly's life will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
