Obituary
John Wesley Shumate, 77, died on
Friday, June 12th in Wichita, Kansas.
John was born on May 22, 1938 to Elmer
and Elsie (Patterson) Shumate in Wichita, Kansas.
John was a skilled carpenter and expert
handy man. He was able to fix almost anything and was a great teacher
of his skills. John had a good sense of humor and was known as a
practical joker. He was a man of strong faith and great perseverance.
At the age of 57, John had a brain
tumor and stroke which paralyzed one side of his body. He was unable
to work and never fully recovered from this.
John is survived by his wife: Roberta
May (Rhamy) Shumate; children: John Shumate, Brenda (Byron) Siemens,
and Wanda Ivy; sisters: Mary Wilson and Pam Ficklin; brother: Charles
Shumate; grandchildren: Nathan Siemens, Brandon Siemens, Seth
Siemens, Aaron Siemens, Zachary Shumate, and Megan Shumate.
He was preceded in death by his
parents: Elmer and Elsie Shumate; and sister: Helen Wilson.
A memorial service is scheduled for
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16th at Petersen Funeral Chapel in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral
Home. A private family scattering of the ashes will be performed at a
later date.
