The Newton Kansan

Dr. Lois H. Lohrentz

HESSTON - Dr. Lois H. Lohrentz, M.D., 80, died Friday (Feb. 2, 2007) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She was born April 25, 1926, in China to medical missionaries Dr. and Mrs. A.M. Lohrentz. The family returned to the United States in 1927. She attended school in McPherson.

Lois accepted Christ and was baptized at Hebron Mennonite Church, Buhler. She attended Bethel College and KU Medical School, which was followed by a two-year residency in anesthesiology at KU. She practiced her specialty for many years in the Kansas City area, finally retiring to Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Lois and the Rev. John Frank Enns were married in 1953. She and John, now deceased, were blessed with three children: Samuel, now deceased, Susan Enns of Manhattan and Dr. Stephen Enns and wife Pam and grandson Timothy of North Augusta, S.C. She had two brothers: Walter of Wichita and Harold of Manhattan.

During the later years of her medical practice, she became interested in dancing, a practice once frowned upon by her Mennonite heritage. She became so adept at dancing that she entered competitive ballroom dancing contests in various cities throughout the United States. She enjoyed this very much.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rainbow Mennonite Church of which she was a founder-member at 1444 S.W. Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66103 and Schowalter Villa, 200 W. Cedar, Hesston, KS 67062.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Schowalter Villa Chapel. Arrangements were made with Petersen Funeral Home of Newton.
