Elizabeth Teresa Townsend
Elizabeth Teresa Townsend,
92, of Newton, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2007) at Halstead Health and Rehab in
Halstead.
She was born Dec. 21, 1914,
in Newton to James and Daisy (Anderson) Gray. She married Samuel Townsend on
Aug. 21, 1936. They had been married for 69 years when Samuel passed away on
Sept. 18, 2005.
Elizabeth worked for Boeing
during the World War II era and was one of the "Rosie Riveters."
Later in her life, she worked in the food service industry.
She was an active member of
the PTA, the Second Baptist Church and in varied community activities. She was
a loving mother, and her home always was open to anyone because she never knew
a stranger. Elizabeth always had "hugs" for everyone. She was a
loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a
woman of faith.
Survivors include: daughters,
Teresa Foster of Newton and Anita Tolbert of Wichita; a son, Galen Townsend of
Wichita; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; granddaughter, Patricia Coleman; sons, Billy Townsend, Samuel
Townsend and Homer Townsend; and daughter, Mary Ella Townsend.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home
in Newton.
Services will be at 2 p.m.
Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Pastor Larry Lee of All
Nations Pentecostal Church in Newton officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.

made to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
