Obituary--Charles P. Reffner
Charles P. Reffner, of Darlington Township died very suddenly Sunday afternoon, Dec. 30, 1923 at his home four and one half miles south of McLains.
The deceased was born March 16, 1871 near Canton, Fulton Co. Ill. He came to Kansas in 1882 with his parents who settled on a farm in Harvey county. Here he finished his grade school education. He later went to Iowa where he took up Academy work at the Humeston Normal School, Humeston, Iowa. Deciding however, to take up farming as his life work, he returned to Kansas, locating in Harvey county. On Jan. 2, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Schuessler, of Sedgwick county. To this union were born ten children, one infant son preceding him to his Heavenly home.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, five daughters: Mrs. Ira Kurr, who resides near the family home; Mildred, Eunice, Ruth and Mary; four sons: Vernon, George, Frederick and Donald; two brothers: John and Albert, of Manitou, Okla.; and a little grandson, Albert Buford Kurr.
He was converted in young manhood. At the time of his death he was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist church, where he was superintendent of the Sunday school for almost three years. He was a staunch believer in the whole Bible, noble and upright in character, true in his friendships, and ever ready to help advance God's Kingdom. In the home where his loss is the most keenly felt, he was a loving affectionate husband and a kind father, always ready to sacrifice that he might educate his children and fit them for life's duties.
The family wishes to have it known that they do not murmur because God in His wisdom has seen fit to take their loved one from them, but feel rather that since he was God's child, he had a perfect right to take his own and they humbly bow to his will.
