Cornelius Koehn
Cornelius (Cornie) Koehn, 95,
died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2007) in Hesston.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1911,
near Goessel to Cornelius C. and Agnes Goertz Koehn. He was one of 10 children
and spent his childhood on farms in Idaho and Kansas. He married Edna Dyck on
April 16, 1937. They had three children, Gerald, Joyce and Kathleen. Gerald
preceded him in death in 1966.
Cornelius was a World War II
veteran and served in the Infantry as an interpreter and scout in the European
theater. He was wounded in Germany at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded
the Purple Heart. He retired from the Newton Gas Service Co. After retirement,
he and Edna volunteered at New Tribes Mission in Oregon for several years. In
1995, they sold their home in Newton and moved to Lake Vista in Hesston. They
have lived at Schowalter Villa the past two years.
He is survived by his wife,
Edna, his children, Becky and Richard Hege, Joyce and Larry Knott, and Kathy
and Ron Baird; grandchildren, Misty and Bruce Bartel, Melissa and Merlin Koehn,
Melanie and Mike McClain, Shawn Hege, Shane Hege, Monique and Peter Osterfelt,
Nicole and Chris Burris, David and Kelli Baird, Angi and Chris Pauletto, and
Mark and Jamie Baird; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Koehn, John and
Ellen Koehn, all of Newton, Nellie Esua of Gossel, Martha Penner of Emporia,
and Irwin and Donna Koehn of Blaine, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Irma Koehn and
Inez Koehn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by
four siblings, Jacob, Margaret, George and Edward.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Family
will greet friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
Service will be at 2 p.m.
Thursday at Newton Bible Church in Newton. Burial will be at Restlawn Garden of
Memories in Newton.
