Verna L. Unruh

Verna L. Unruh, 85, died Wednesday (Feb. 1, 2006) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community in Newton. She was born Aug. 18, 1920, to William W. and Lilly Marie (Fischer) Unruh in Medora. They preceded her in death. In 1948, she began working for Wiley's Inc. of Hutchinson and retired from there in 1981. Verna held membership with First Missionary Church of Newton. She also was the founder of First Missionary Church of Hutchinson, which was open for 48 years. Survivors include: a brother and sister-in-law, Irvin Unruh and wife Jean Ann of Sedgwick; a sister-in-law, Bernice Unruh of Newton; a brother-in-law, Marion Nattier; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She also was preceded in death by: a brother, Elmer Unruh; and a sister, Ida (Unruh) Nattier.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Missionary Church with Pastors Ray Adams and Dave Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson.

Memorials have been established with First Missionary Church and Asbury Park (previously Friendly Acres Retirement Community), both in care of the funeral home.
