Frederick Paul Schmidt
Frederick Paul Schmidt, 58,
died Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006) at his home in Newton with his family surrounding
him after a four-year battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 15, 1947, to Rudy
and Luella (Funk) Schmidt in Goessel. He married Jo-Ann Enns of
Niagra-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, Nov. 30, 1968, in Fort Wayne, Ind. She
survives of Newton. They met during a Mennonite Voluntary Service work term in
Fort Wayne, Ind., and continued their life together in both Kansas and Ontario.
Fred was an electrician, dairy farmer, nursing home administrator, construction
worker, social worker and group home parent at different times throughout his
life. He worked hard and thoroughly enjoyed his work - due in large part to the
people with whom he associated throughout those years. Fred had an honest and
easy-going approach to life, which included a sense of humor that he maintained
right up until his death. He loved his family, including his extended family
and circles of friends.
Other survivors include: son,
Jeffrey Schmidt of Newton; daughter, Rachel Schmidt and husband James Cressman
of Toronto, Ontario; a son, Michael Schmidt and wife Christina Reimer of
Toronto; grandchildren, Nadine and Elliot Cressman, also of Toronto; father,
Rudy and Nola Schmidt of Goessel; a sister, Kathy Schmidt of Goessel; a
brother, Jim and wife Diana Schmidt of Goessel; a sister, Mary and husband Todd
Ulsaker of McPherson; father- and mother-in-law, John and LaVina Enns of
Parkhill, Ontario; 10 brothers- and sisters-in-law in Canada; and 17 nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by
his mother, Luella Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 4 to
8 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral
Home in Goessel.
Funeral service will be 10:30
a.m. Thursday at Tabor Mennonite Church.
Cremation and inurnment will
take place at a later date.

established with Bethesda Home in Goessel and the Mennonite Central Committee,
both in care of the funeral home, 303 E. Main, Goessel, KS 67053.
