Prudence Eva Price
Prudence Eva Price, 89, died
Monday (Feb. 13, 2006) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. She was born June 5,
1917, to William D. and Lena (Keely) Romine in Cordell, Okla. They preceded her
in death. She married D.U. Price in Amarillo, Texas, in 1952. He preceded her
in death in 1972. She attended the University of Wichita where she earned her
teaching degree. She taught school in Kansas, Arkansas and Texas. She retired
from the educational field in 1977 with 43-and-a-half years in the profession.
She was an active bridge
player, member of the Newton Duplicate Bridge Club, organized the Newton
Novelty Band, formed the "Blowhands" Harmonica Band, taught bridge
classes at the Newton Recreation Center and was a tour director for the Meadowlark
Tours.
Prudence held a membership
with First Presbyterian Church of Newton where she lead her church circle for
six years and organized the Children's Sunbeam Choir, which is ongoing. Her
other hobbies included reading and working cryptograms.
Survivors include: a sister,
Ruth Spangler of Newton; and a nephew, Brian and Dawn Romine of Eugene, Ore.
She also was preceded in
death by: a sister, Mary Romine; a brother, George Romine; a nephew, Bruce
Romine; and a stepmother, Elizabeth Romine.
Book signing will be from 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Colonial
Funeral Home.
Memorial service will be 10
a.m. Monday at Presbyterian Manor Chapel with Pastor Jim Anderson officiating.
There will be a private
family burial at a later date.
Memorials have been
established with First Presbyterian Church and the donor's favorite charity in
care of the funeral home.
