Laurel Hofen
WICHITA - Laurel W. Hofen,
93, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at Wesley Medical Center. He was born April
11, 1912, to William Wesley and Lillie Belle (Showalter) Hofen in Sylvia. They
preceded him in death. He married Gene Groseclose May 16, 1937, in Sylvia. She
survives of the home. Laurel was a longtime Harvey County resident, moving to
Wichita in 2004. He was co-owner of Shadelight Marque company where he worked
for 45 years. He was a charter member of Trinity Heights United Methodist
Church in Newton where he served on the building committee, was
secretary/treasurer of church school and the lawn keeper for many years. He was
a member of CKMA and a lifetime member of the Newton Lions Club where he was
awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994.
Other survivors include: a
son, James and Cindy Hofen of Mountain View, Calif.; a daughter, Laurina and
Paul Teske of Wichita; a sister, Elsie Schwiethale of Hutchinson; and
granddaughters, Laura Hofen, Lindsay Hofen and Lisa Teske.
He also was preceded in death
by: sisters, Alberta Wiggins and Juanita Victory; and a brother, LaVerne Hofen.
Visitation will be from 3 to
9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2
p.m. Friday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil
Fischer officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn
Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been established
with Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and the Newton Lions Club, both in
care of the funeral home.
