Clarence C. Unruh

Clarence C. Unruh, 95, died Tuesday (May 15, 2007) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1912, in rural Kiowa County to Jacob and Susie (Unruh) Unruh. They preceded him in death. On July 23, 1936, he married Grace Schmidt. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2006. Clarence and his wife were engaged in farming south of Greensburg for many years. In 1957, they moved to Newton. He worked as a carpenter and later a printer at Mennonite Press until his retirement. He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. He looked forward to spending time with his many friends and loving family.

Survivors include a son, Charles and Irene Unruh of Oswego, Ill.; daughters, Carol Kirk-Brockmeier and Roy Brockmeier of Herington, Rachel and Michael Clark of Grapevine, Texas; brothers, Lawrence Unruh of Hesston, and Cecil Unruh of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by brothers, Otis Unruh, Ed Unruh, and Verney Unruh; sisters, Anne Bontrager, and Ethel Penner.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church in Newton with Pastor Joan Boyer officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church, Greensburg Mennonite Church, Mennonite Central Committee or Greensburg United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
