Charles A. Hoelscher
Charles A. Hoelscher, 76, of
Walton, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, at his farm in Walton, surrounded by
his family.
He was born in Richmond and
was raised on his family's farm. He lived in eastern Kansas with his family
until he joined the U.S. Army. After being stationed in Alaska, and upon
honorable discharge from the service, he moved to Wichita and began working in
the mobile home industry. While in Wichita, he met Esther M. Lutz and they were
married at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Nov. 25, 1954.
They moved to Newton, where
they lived for several years and they purchased their family farm in Walton in
1963, where Chuck and Esther lived for the remainder of his life.
After working in the mobile
home industry for 25 years, he opened and operated Chuck's Repair and Welding,
which he and his family ran for 26 years.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Steve and Barbara Hoelscher, and his brother, Robert. He is
survived by his loving wife, Esther, and their 12 children: Theresa (Doug)
Wolford of Overland Park, Susan (Leroy) Koehn of Newton, Steven L. (Katie)
Hoelscher of Newton, Deborah (Jeff) Brust of Pittsburgh, Pa., Doris (Warren)
Regier of Goessel, Connie (Rick) Campbell of Canton, Sharon (Bob) McCall of
Newton, Charles (Vicki) Hoelscher of Piedmont, Okla., James (Shelia) Hoelscher
of Walton, Michael (Jana) Hoelscher of Zimmerdale, Douglas Hoelscher of
Shawnee, and Mary (John) Dickinson of Omaha, Neb. He and Esther have 23
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his two sisters,
Jean Yackle of Paola and Lois Nunnally of Hardy, Ark.
He enjoyed farming, raising
cattle, riding horses, playing horseshoes, visiting with friends, volunteering
at St. Mary's Church and fishing.
He was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church since 1955. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the
Legion of Mary and the St. Mary's Cemetery Committee.
In lieu of flowers, the
family request that memorials be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Harry
Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Petersen's Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. with the family
greeting friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in
Newton.
Recitation of the Rosary will
be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.. Funeral
services will be at St.Mary's Catholic Church Friday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
