Lorene K. Goering, 90, passed away on
Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 in Newton, Kansas.
She was born March 30, 1930
along with her twin sister to their parents Albert H. Penner and
Susan Penner in Goessel, Kansas. Lorene grew up in the Hillsboro area
along with her brother and 5 sisters. She lived on the family farm
and attended the country school until age 11 when they moved into
Hillsboro and she started attending school in town. She graduated
from Hillsboro High School.
Lorene attended Bethel College where
she met Bob Goering. They later married on July 31, 1949 at the
Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. Lorene took meals
out to the field while Bob was farming and also helped him with
responsibilities during Bob's 16 years of owning a Chevrolet
dealership. In addition, Lorene also ran her own
business, Bee Cee's where she used her certification in mastectomy
and prothesis fittings to help many. Her expertise and friendly,
loving nature made this perfect for her and a blessing to her
clients.
Lorene was HUGE in Community Service
and held leadership positions in many of those endeavors. She was
part of Community Playschool at Bethel College Mennonite Church, she
held leadership positions in the Kansas Twins Association (KSTA) and
was involved in Girl Scouts for over 20 years. Over the years the kitchen counter of
Bob and Lorene reached out and fed so many. Whether it was Lorene
assisting Bob with his special pancakes, or her making a delicious
meal, everyone was always welcomed with open arms. After her husband Bob passed away in
2014, Lorene continued to reside in their rural Newton home of now
over 70 years. Lorene followed the motto of "always
leave a place better than you found it" and that is exactly what
she has done for this world and the many that were lucky enough to
have known her!
