Reber, Ellen

The Newton Kansan
08 Dec 1933

Mrs. H.E. Reber, living a mile and a half northwest of town, passed away at her home at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, following an illness of several years which became acute on Monday night.  She had been somewhat worse the past three weeks, being able to be out of bed only a part of the time.

The passing of Mrs. Reber takes from the community a woman of splendid character.  She was a wonderful mother to her six fine children, a devoted wife and a kind and helpful neighbor.  The family lived south of town in the Kellas school district when the children were growing up and before they moved to the Sam Brown place on which they now live, and in both communities Mrs. Reber has been active in all the affairs that called for the help of the women.  At school dinners, box suppers, and school entertainments, Mrs. Reber did her part, bringing big baskets of well cooked food and cheerful and encouraging counsel.

The family was an especially devoted one and this first break, in which the wife and mother, the center of the family life, is taken, is especially hard for her loved ones.  She leaves her devoted husband and these children:  Mrs. Ward Spangler, Henry, Gilbert, Mrs. Dick Rose, Earl, and Walter, all of Newton and vicinity.  There are also surviving the following brothers and sisters:  Mrs. Emma Mann, of College Corner, Ohio; Lee Brown of Portales, New Mexico; and John, George, and Anna Brown, all of Nampa, Idaho.
