Reber, Harry

The Newton Kansan
17 June 1947

Harry Edward Reber, son of the late Henry and Ann Hockersmith Reber, was born March 11, 1869 at Green Village, Pennsylvania, and departed this life at the Axtell Christian hospital June 5, 1947, at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 25 days.

He was united in marriage to Ella Millen Brown on March 3, 1891 at Morning Sun, Ohio.  His wife passed away in 1933.

He was a pioneer farmer of Harvey county and lived south of Newton about 17 years, later moving to a farm northwest of Newton, on which he resided for many years.  He retired from farming soon after the passing of his wife.

Mr. Reber was a long and faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Newton; one who was always willing to lend a helping hand in time of need.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 9, 1947, at 2:30 o'clock at the First Methodist Church, with Rev. S.W. Keller, former Pastor, and Rev. Forrest E. Rohl officiating.  A quartet composed of Miss Marcene Phillips, Mrs. Walter Willis, Art Suderman, and Harold Ewert sang "The Beautiful Garden" and "Sometime We'll Understand."  Miss Phillips sang a solo, "Sunrise."  They were accompanied at the pipe organ by Mrs. Waldo Weinholt.

Casket bearers were the four sons and two sons-in-law; Henry B. Reber, Gilbert L. Reber, Robert E. Reber, Walter C. Reber, Ward Spangler, and Richard Rose.
